Terms of Service
Last updated: May 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Tutor Registry. By using the platform you agree to these Terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.
1. About Tutor Registry
Tutor Registry is a marketplace platform that connects parents with university student tutors. We provide the platform, identity verification, booking infrastructure, and payment processing — but we are not the tutor and we are not a party to the tutoring relationship between a parent and a tutor. Tutors operate as independent providers.
2. Eligibility
- Parents and guardians must be at least 18 years old.
- Tutors must be current students at a recognised UK university and must be able to provide valid student identification.
- All users must provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating an account, and keep that information up to date.
- You may not create more than one account, or create an account on behalf of someone else without authorisation.
3. Tutor verification
Tutors must submit valid student identification and subject evidence (for example, transcripts, certificates, or grade slips) before their profile is published. Tutor Registry reviews each application and may request additional information.
We reserve the right to refuse or revoke approval of any tutor at our discretion, including where verification cannot be completed, where conduct falls below our standards, or where there is a safeguarding concern.
4. Bookings
- Intro sessions are free, last 15 minutes, and are intended to let parents meet a tutor before committing to paid sessions.
- Paid sessionsare 60 minutes long and are charged at the tutor's listed hourly rate.
- Paid bookings are confirmed once payment has been successfully processed. Until then, the booking is provisional.
- Each parent is entitled to one free intro session per tutor.
5. Cancellation policy
- Cancellations made more than 24 hours before the scheduled start time receive a full refund.
- Cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled start time are non-refundable.
- You can cancel a booking from your parent portal. Refunds are returned to the original payment method, typically within 5–10 working days.
6. Payments
- All payments are processed securely by Stripe. Tutor Registry does not store card details.
- Tutor Registry charges a platform fee on each paid session, which is deducted from the tutor's payout.
- Tutor payouts are held for seven (7) days after the session is completed before being released, to allow time for any disputes or refunds.
- You are responsible for any taxes that apply to you. As a marketplace, we do not provide tax advice.
7. Reviews
- Only parents who have completed a paid booking with a tutor may leave a review of that tutor.
- Reviews are moderated by Tutor Registry before publication. We may decline to publish, edit, or remove reviews that breach these Terms.
- False, defamatory, harassing, or malicious reviews will be removed and may result in account suspension.
8. Prohibited conduct
You must not, and must not attempt to:
- impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity;
- provide false, misleading, or inaccurate information;
- harass, threaten, or behave abusively toward another user or our staff;
- use the platform to facilitate or solicit any illegal activity;
- circumvent the platform's booking or payment flow (for example, by arranging payment off-platform after meeting via Tutor Registry);
- attempt to interfere with, scrape, or compromise the security of the platform.
Breach of this section may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account.
9. Intellectual property
All content on the platform — including the brand, software, design, and written content — is owned by Tutor Registry or its licensors and is protected by copyright and trade-mark law. You retain ownership of content you submit (such as profile text, images, and reviews), and you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host and display that content as part of operating the service.
10. Limitation of liability
Tutor Registry is a marketplace and is not responsible for the quality, safety, accuracy, or outcome of any tutoring session arranged through the platform. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tutor Registry's aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the total fees you paid through the platform in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
